Dr Samir Kumar Das born on October 15, 1956.  He has obtained B Tech in Mining Engineering from ISM, Dhanbad in the year 1979 with First Class honors.  He has also obtained M Tech Degree in Mining Engineering with First class and Distinction and also Ph D degree from ISM, Dhanbad in the year 1984 and 1995 respectively.  He has also passed first class Mines Managers Certificate of Competency from DGMS, Dhanbad in the year 1983.  He is also a Diploma holder in Human Resource Management.  He worked for five years in the highly mechanized underground Mines named Moonebih Project which is under BCCL.  Thereafter he joined at ISM, Dhanbad as an Assistant Professor (Reader) and worked for 12 years in this position.  He thereafter switched over to IIT, Kharagpur in the year 1997 as an Associate Professor.  Thereafter he become a full fledged Professor and worked there for more than 13 years.  He has also served as Head of the Department, Mining Engineering, IIT, Kharagpur.  He also worked in the Technical University of Popua New Guinea as a Professor and Head of the Department of Mining Engineering for one year.  He is a recipient of many national awards including the National Design Awards for Mining Engineering. He has done many R&D and Consultancy projects in the various Universities including one Research Project which is being continued with Petro-Sani University of Romania.  He has done many MOUs with many countries for various Academic activities which includes Malasiya, South Korea and Romania.  He has guided many Ph D Research Scholars at IIT, Kharagpur.  He has published around 120 research papers in the various International and National Journals and also in various International/National Conferences.  He has published six text books in Mining Engineering and many other books are under pipe-line for publications.

At present he is the Director of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar
