   Project Objective:

  • To develop well equipped laboratory, both in terms of equipment and manpower, capable of providing full range testing facilities for raw materials and finished rubber products.
  • To provide capabilities to analyze and provide guidance to production related problems for process control, energy conservation, product optimization etc.

   Activities Undertaken:

  • Technology Industry Meet-2001 : Rubber & Polymer Industry (January, 2001) in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry & Indian Rubber Institute, New Delhi at the Institute.

   Broad Topics Covered:

  • Adaptation and absorbing of modern technology, Recent Advances in Manufacturing Technology, Testing and Quality control, Environment Friendly Rubber Technology, Quality Management systems in Rubber Industry, Advances in Rubber Products
  • Key expert speakers fromIndian Institute Technology, Khargpur;, HASETRI Jaykaygram, Kankroli (Rajasthan), Rubber Board, Kottayam, Bayer India, New Delhi, Confederation of Indian Industry, New Delhi, CEAT Tyres, Mumbai, Apollo Tyres, Vadodara, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, Bhimrajka Impex, Mumbai.

   Evaluation for Development and Quality Control in Rubber Technology

   Setting up Rubber Testing Laboratory

  • A Rubber testing laboratory inaugurated on May 31st, 2001 out of the project grant.
  • A Sub-Chapter of Indian Rubber Institute declared open on this occasion.

   The Major Equipments installed

  • Tensile Tester (500 kgf.), Shear Fatigue Tester, De Mattia Flex Tester, Ross Flex Tester, Din Abrasion Tester, IRHD Tester, Tension Set Apparatus, Compression Set Apparatus, Resilence Tester, Ageing Oven, Specific Gravity Apparatus, Lab Hydraulic Press

   Diploma course in Rubber Technology in collaboration with Indian Rubber Institute

  • Organized at the Institute during academic year 2001- 2002.
  • Attended by about 35 candidates from the various Rubber Industries
  • Faculty drawn from Reliance Footwear New Delhi , Modi Rubber Modinagar, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi , Indian Rubber Institute New Delhi , Nav Auxichem Ltd. Jalandhar, Bayer India New Delhi, NIT Jalandhar

iii) QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES

   - Sanctioned in the year 2000 with a grant of Rs. 8.00 lacs.

   - Project Objectives

  • To Promote concepts of standardization and quality control in Industry.
  • To create awareness about ISO Certification, Total Quality management, human Resource Development, Energy Audit, Environmental management, etc. amongst the Small and Medium scale industries.

   - Methodology

  • A Questionnaire sent to around 100 small and medium enterprises for survey.
  • Data collected and analyzed.
  • Conclusions drawns and recommendations made to the concerned Industry.

IV. DISTINGUISHED VISITING PROFESSOR SCHEME UNDER INDUSTRY INSTITUTE INTERACTION

  • The scheme has been launched jointly by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) in the year 2001.
  • Sh. R.S.Khandpur , Director General (Retd.) Center for Electronics Design and Technology of India, awarded Distinguished Visiting Professorship at the Institute for three years w.e.f. September 2001.
  • Sh. R.S. Khandpur, visiting the Institute periodically to interact with the faculty and the students of the Departments of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Centre of Training and Placement for Lectures and interactive sessions with students and faculty of the departments in emerging areas relevant to the requirements of B.Tech. Programme and for identifying some relevant student- projects.
