VISION

VISION

PRAYAAS is governed by its motto- “AN HOUR A DAY, KEEPS ILLITERACY AWAY.” Prayaas envisions a locality where no kid lies in the darkness of illiteracy. It dreams of a country where no child lingers palely in slums and the children are free to dream. A locality in which they celebrate their innocence instead of going from one house to the other, collecting garbage.

JOURNEY

JOURNEY

A group of NITJ students under the able guidance of Chemistry Professor Dr. Balbir Singh Kaith conceptualised PRAYAAS in 2008 which was aimed at ameliorating the underprivileged kids in the locality. Since then, it has not looked back. Presently, we have around 220 kids regularly being taught free of cost by around 90 NITJ students. We would urge you to support PRAYAAS by giving some of your time.

Hon’ble Director’s Message

Greetings from NIT Jalandhar! It gives me an immense pleasure in writing this note for praising the efforts of Alumni and students for uplifting and educating the underprivileged kids. The effort is quite novel and it has brought changes in the lives of hundreds of students and their families. Faculty of NIT Jalandhar along-with staff are mentoring students for this noble cause. I congratulate them for this. Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the society. What we sow in these kids today; will be reaped out in the near future. I congratulate the spirit of the students of PRAYAAS who regularly teach the kids of workers, immigrants and villagers and shape their future. I remember something Malala Yousafzai said- “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen CAN change the world.” I am quite sure these PRAYAAS kids would take our beloved INDIA to greater heights.

I again wish great success to the PRAYAAS Family Members and their initiative.

Jai Hind. Jai Bharat!

Message from Professor (Dr.) B. S. Kaith

It gives me an extreme pleasure and honour to be a part of PRAYAAS NIT Jalandhar. PRAYAAS has always believed- “An hour a day, keeps illiteracy away”. Since, its inception in 2008, PRAYAAS SOCIETY has constantly been striving towards bringing a change in the society through education. I am proud of each and every volunteer of PRAYAAS, who; despite their own studies, devote time, each evening, to teach the underprivileged kids. With constant efforts put in, we have achieved a few things but we still have a long way to go. There are around 230 kids being taught regularly at the THREE Teaching Centres of PRAYAAS. Despite teaching kids, PRAYAAS also focuses upon their all-round development by organizing various competitions like Srijan and Prayaas Day where these kids showcase their talent. I would urge everyone to join this noble cause and strengthen it.

I wish all the VOLUNTEERS OF PRAYAAS a great success and would like to say that even sky is not the limit and we need to keep improving- day in, day out.

Jai Hind. Jai Bharat. Jai PRAYAAS!
