Smart India Hackathon 2018
National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar is pumped up with pride as four teams from the college have been shortlisted to participate in the finals of the Software Edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018. The contest is an initiative of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) along with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Inter Institutional Inclusive Innovation centre (i4C) and Persistent Systems. The aim is to identify new and disruptive digital technology innovations to solve day to day challenges faced by the country. The Initiative clubs together thousands of technical students across the country with government departments, by challenging them to build digital solutions to improve the efficiency of the departments and hence providing new realms to think about. The finals are scheduled on March 30 and 31 in various nodal cities. Prof Lalit Kumar Awasthi, Director at NIT, Jalandhar congratulated the teams on their selection and also wished them good luck for the participation. The teams of the Institute are headed by Dr Geeta Sikka Head Computer Centre and Coordinator (Hackathon) cum SPOC for the event at NIT Jalandhar. Also present were Prof A L Sangal, Dean (Student Welfare), Prof S K Sinha, Dean (Faculty Welfare) and Dr Harsh K Verma, Head (Department of Computer Science and Engg.). The first team to qualify, Team Tejas consist of six students from B.tech 2nd year . The members - Nitish Kumar, Deepak Dwivedi, Harry Chhabra, Inderjeet Singh , Rupinderjeet Singh and Sakshi Mehta- submitted their idea on ' Group Messaging Solution ' to Department of Defence Production , Ministry of Defence . The team will travel to Bengaluru to participate in the grand final round.
The second team also from B. Tech 2nd year, Blackcoders3 comprising Rahul Katyal , Kajal Tandon Simran Kaur, Ridhi ,Yash Kaushik and K Kishor Kumar submitted idea on 'Bus Occupancy Finder App' to Government of Punjab . The team will travel to Nagpur for the final round . The third team, The Beatles - Ashish Vikhona, Vikas Soora, Lakshya Dhingra, Pranav Negi, Vikash Kumar and Shadab Khan, compiled their ideas on 'Smart e-challan System ' to avoid traffic violations , for Government of Chandigarh. The team will be traveling to Nagpur for the finale . Fourth team, Persevarance - Chinmay Choudhary, Riya Verma, Prince Kumar,Nitika Bansal,Gaurav Jindal,Abhishek Kaushal, the fourth team representing NITJ will travel to Hyderabad with their idea on 'Virtual Vision', for Ministry of Electronics and Information Techmnology (MeitY).

Smart India Hackathon 2017
Our college NIT Jalandhar was represented by Team Atulya at Grand Finale, where our team stood at "Top 8" position title. It consisted Deepanshu Setia, Sapna Meena, Nitish Kumar, Gaurav Sharma, Vivek Kumar, Ravi Shankar. The team made a project under the department of University Grants Commission. The idea was mapping college neighbourhood with social possibilities. There were many other problem statements under various ministry, the scale and reach of Smart India Hackathon 2017 were unprecedented; for the first time that so many different ministries/departments came together and posted their 598 problems for students seeking innovative solutions.
