In an effort to help people of the Nation in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Lalit Kumar Awasthi, Director, National Institute of Technology Jalandhar (NITJ) appealed to all faculty, staff and students of the Institute to contribute to the country in the time of need. Under his able leadership Hand Sanitizer has been developed.
In order to promote hand hygiene and minimize the transmission risk of Covid 19 virus among the residents of Campus, a team comprising of Dr. Shailendra Bajpai, Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Kiran Singh, Department of Physics and Dr. Vikramjit Singh, Department of Chemistry developed low cost alcohol based hand sanitizer. It was developed when sanitizers were not available in the market due to shortage or available at very high cost. The sanitizer was prepared using Isopropyl alcohol as main ingredients. The bottles containing sanitizer were distributed to students, staff, and residents of campus free of cost. The hand sanitizer was made available in all entrance gate of Institute offices, various hostels and Institute main gate. The development of indigenous hand sanitizer was very useful in maintaining hand hygiene in the campus during the COVID-19 outbreak in city.
