Tentative Course Programme

The main focus of the STC is to provide the participant with a good experience of "LEARNING BY DOING" through dedicated Lectures and Tutorial sessions. The lectures and Hands-On tutorials will be delivered by eminent Professors from leading Teaching and Research institutes like HRI Allahabad, TIFR, PRL, central universities (Himachal Pradesh, South Bihar) and state universities (Panjab University, Jammu University, Lucknow University).

Day 1
  • Two Lectures on "Basic Concepts of Neutrino Physics and Neutrino Flavours"
  • Lecture on "Neutrino Mixing".
Day 2
  • Lecture on basics of "The Solar & Atmospheric Neutrino Problem"
  • Lecture on "The Relativistic Kinematics" (about some very important kinematic variables used in the field of high energy physics).
  • Hands-On Tutorial session on "The Relativistic Kinematics" (calculations related to the kinematical variables.)
Day 3
  • Lecture on "Neutrino Physics from Dark Matter Perspective"
  • Lecture on "Neutrinoless double beta decay"
  • Hands on tutorial on "Basics of Probability and statistics for High Energy Physics"
Day 4
  • Two lectures on "The Experimental Aspects of Neutrino physics."
  • Lecture-cum-hands on tutorial on "Statistical Methods in High Energy Physics"
Day 5
  • Continuation of lecture-cum-hands on tutorial on "Statistical Methods in High Energy Physics"
  • STC will be concluded with a keynote lecture on "Unresolved Issues in Neutrino Physics (Future Perspective)"

Broad Objectives:

1. Participants will learn about the fundamentals of various theoretical and experimental concepts related to the field of neutrino.
2. How to apply the fundamentals to study the research problems of related fields.
3. Participant will learn about aim of different worldwide experimental facilities of high energy physics.
4. Participant will be provided some hand-on training on the statistics in the field of high energy physics.

We cordially invite you to take advantage of this opportunity by participating/nominating colleagues and Ph.D./postgraduate students from your Department for this short term course. Please click here for the registration.

About NIT Jalandhar

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (erstwhile REC Jalandhar), was established in the year 1987 and attained the status of National Institute of Technology on October 17, 2002. As National Institute of Technology, the Institute has a responsibility of providing high quality technical education in Engineering and Technology to produce competent technical manpower for the country. The institute offers B. Tech. Programmes in twelve disciplines of Engineering and Technology along with the Research Programmes leading to M. Sc, M. Tech. and Ph. D. degrees. The institute has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with many prestigious Institutes such as Ecole Centrale de Lille, France, University of Johanessburg, South Africa, along with other Universities abroad including UK, USA and Canada for the mutual academic exchange program and further strengthening of the academics and research. For more information, please visit the society webpage.

Department of Physics

The Department of Physics started in 1989 at the erstwhile REC, Jalandhar. Originally oriented towards teaching undergraduate (B.Tech.) students, the department has come a long way since – today the department in addition runs M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs. The department strives to emerge as a premier centre of Physics education and research across the country. Our research is organized within the general areas of Condensed Matter Physics, High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics and Plasma Physics. We have an even split of theoreticians and experimentalists, with experimental research in Radiation Physics, Thin Films, Liquid Crystals and theoretical research in Laser-Plasma Interactions, High Energy Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Nuclear Physics. For more information, please visit the department webpage.

Physical Science Society

Physical Science Society, as the name suggests, is an initiative by the dynamic physicists of the Department of Physics at NITJ to enhance the social and educational fabric of the nation. The society is highly dedicated to promoting scientific thinking and logical reasoning among the masses for the upliftment of society at large. With a passionate, diligent and well-organized team, the Physical Science Society stands united in its belief- ''Science for Service". For more information, please visit the society webpage.
