TEQIP-III sponsored one week short term course titled “Emerging Fields in High Energy Physics” organised by department of physics NITJ from July 15th-19th, 2019. Prof. L. K. Awasthi, the director, NITJ extended a green welcome to the Guests of Honor in the inauguration ceremony. Prof. Awasthi applauded the efforts of Dr Harleen Dahiya (HoD Physics) and the faculty members in setting up a website of Department of Physics developed by the members of Physical Science Society. He highlighted the importance of staying updated and dedicated in this ever growing technological world. The coordinators Dr. Arvind Kumar and Dr. Suneel Dutt, Assistant Professors, Department of Physics provided an insight into the theoretical and experimental aspects of High Energy Physics along-with the emphasis on the link between them. The course not only shed light on the recent advancements in Particle Physics but also provided hands-on-training experience on many useful tools of High Energy Physics. The course was started with the introduction to particle physics and detectors by Prof. Gautam and Prof. Satyanarayana respectively. Opened the 2nd day by explaining the origin and evolution of universe and some advancement in Quantum mechanics + QFT (Prof. Sandeep sir and Prof. Manmohan ). Third day goes with the tuts on transport models (Dr Lokesh and Dr Natasha ) and LaTeX ( Dr. Monika Randhawa). 4th one entered with the basics of ROOT (Dr Nitish) and rest of the day continued and ended with statistically entertained physics ( by Dr. Manoj and Dr Sushil). Last day closing in with ROOT functionality and CMS detectors (by Dr Rajiv and Prof. Suman Beri). The course witnessed a superlative participation of around 70 academicians and researchers from 17 reputed institutes across India.
